At MOVE Sports Care, we’ve always believed in the power of movement. We know it heals, strengthens, and transforms. But today, science shows us it does even more: movement is medicine for the mind.
In 2023, researchers published one of the most comprehensive reviews ever in the British Journal of Sports Medicine. They looked at 97 studies, involving more than 128,000 participants, and the conclusion was crystal clear: regular physical activity significantly reduces symptoms of depression, anxiety, and psychological distress.
For anyone who has ever felt the rush of calm after a run, or the mental clarity that follows a good gym session, this might not be surprising. But having the data proves what athletes, trainers, and everyday movers have known intuitively for years: the body and mind are inseparable in performance and wellbeing.
Movement in many forms
One of the most striking insights from the study was that there is no single “magic workout” for mental health. Instead, different forms of exercise carry unique benefits:
-
Resistance training (weights, functional training, bodyweight routines) is especially powerful in reducing symptoms of depression.
-
Yoga and Pilates stand out in lowering anxiety and calming the nervous system.
-
Aerobic training (running, cycling, swimming, or HIIT) boosts mood, sharpens focus, and lowers overall stress.
In other words: the best exercise is the one you enjoy and can commit to. Every choice to move whether it’s a mindful stretch or a heavy squat session—is an investment in your mental health.
Beyond the physical: what this means for MOVE
At MOVE, our mission has always been to empower people to perform at their best. Initially, that meant focusing on the physical side of performance helping your muscles warm up, recover, and stay protected. But the more we listened to athletes and everyday movers, the more we realized: physical recovery is only half the story.
True performance means mental resilience, emotional balance, and the ability to keep showing up day after day. That’s why we created our MOVE for the MIND commitment. Every year on World Mental Health Day, we donate 10% of our profits to organizations supporting mental wellbeing. Because caring for your body without caring for your mind is only half the job.
A stronger mind, a stronger you
Ask any top athlete what separates the good from the great, and you’ll hear the same answer: it’s not just about physical power—it’s about mental toughness, focus, and clarity under pressure. This applies far beyond the world of elite sport. Whether you’re running your first 5K, hitting the gym after a long day, or simply moving to clear your head, your mental strength drives your body’s ability to perform.
MOVE for the MIND
So next time you use MOVE to warm up, recover, or protect your body, remember this: you’re also taking care of your most important muscle—your mind.
Because movement isn’t just for the body. It’s medicine for the mind. And at MOVE, what moves you, matters.
